Who pays for the trip?

The school itself incurs very little cost for a trip. The majority of the cost of the trip is paid for through the tuition charged for the trip to the students.

What is the cost of the trip?

Each trip is customized to meet your groups interests and requirements, therefore the price will vary accordingly.  In general, a 5 night / 6 day trip will cost approximately $3,000 per student with one staff member for every 10 students travels for free. (Free travel is based on $500 average airfare price)

What does my school need to do to prepare for the trip?

Once you have chosen your dates and customized curriculum and itinerary with the expert guidance from Bermuda Bound staff you are well on your way.  The following step remain:

  1. Teach science course leading up to the trip. Typically a once weekly course for six weeks.
  2. Choose/decide staff that will accompany the students.  We recommend they are first aid/CPR trained.
  3. Assign a group leader to communicate with Bermuda Bound.
  4. Distribute information provided by Bermuda Bound relative to the trip to staff, students, and families.
  5. Assure/secure appropriate insurance for international travel. Your policies may already cover such travel or you may need to obtain a separate policy.
  6. Make arrangements for departure and arrival transportation from your school to/from your airport.
  7. If possible practice snorkeling/swimming.
  8. Enjoy the exciting week long trip!

On what airline will my group travel?

Bermuda Bound uses only national well known carriers such as Delta, American, Continental, Northwest, U.S. Air, Air Canada, etc that service Bermuda airport.

Where will the students and staff be staying?

Students and staff stay at the Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR). BBSR is a U.S. non-profit research and educational institution covering all facets of marine science.

What facilities are available at BBSR?

BBSR offers modern laboratory and conference facilities, a unique library, computing facilities, vehicles for land and sea, SCUBA facilities, accommodations and dining.

What are the accommodations like?

A variety of accommodations are available.  There are more than 100 beds in modestly furnished single, twin, double and triple occupancy rooms, as well as several apartments and cottages on the BBSR property.  Wright Hall, BBSR's main accommodation building, has an attractive lounge and a verandah overlooking the water at Ferry Reach.  Buffet dining in Wright Hall provides guests with three meal a day.

Who will be assisting my school's group while they are in Bermuda?

One of Bermuda Bound's experienced and knowledgeable staff members will meet your group at the Bermuda airport and accompany them to BBSR.  From there both BBSR and Bermuda Bound staff will be with your group at various times.  Bermuda Bound staff will meet every morning with your group leader and others from your school to review the itinerary and plans for the day. On snorkel and other scientific trips, BBSR will provide an experienced guide.  On other outings, Bermuda Bound staff will accompany the group.

What happens if there is an emergency?

Both Bermuda Bound and BBSR staff are prepared for emergencies.  Your group will have a cell phone provided to contact a Bermuda Bound staff member and/or in extreme emergency dial 911 if necessary.  Bermuda Bound staff will assist in problem solving and handling any emergency that may arise.

What time of year is best to plan a trip?

Any time of year is good to travel to Bermuda.  For groups wanting to do mainly snorkeling/coral research, May - December is best as the water temperatures are warmer.  However, wet suits can be worn at other times of the year.
