For many students going directly from High School into College is not an optimal plan. Students who have varying learning differences and or attentional issues have a far more successful college experience when they attend a post secondary program as preparation. Bermuda Bound, a Post Secondary/Freshman College Alternative in Bermuda, offers an ideal situation for such students.

Where better to learn and live than on the island of Bermuda?

Students live on the grounds of the Bermuda Biological Station for Research along withcollege students from Duke University, University of North Carolina and University of Rhode Island who are studying marine science. Also residing at the BBSR are students in a Ph.D. or M.S. program with an accredited university to conduct their thesis or dissertation research as well as resident science faculty who are conducting ongoing research programs.

College Courses

Students apply for enrollment in The Bermuda College as part of the admissions process into the Bermuda Bound program. Students enroll in the academic classes appropriate to their level of learning. The goal is for a full schedule of courses for credit, however, we will work with students who require a slightly lighter course load. Bermuda College offers fully transferable credits and has a number of matriculation agreements in place with Colleges in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

A Bermuda Bound staff member serves as a mentor, liaison to college and community, and educator. When not in classes at the Bermuda College students have available to them at the BBSR campus both scheduled and unscheduled time for support with organizational skills, homework and other academic related needs. Ongoing mentoring and guidance is offered for planning for future academic pursuits including encouragement and assistance in exploring colleges for transfer and meeting all related deadlines.

Bermuda Bound promotes responsibility in each individual and assists in the learning process of tackling the varying challenges inherent in Freshman year at College. For example students utilize public transportation to travel throughout the Island, including, for their commute to the Bermuda College, open and manage bank accounts, make plans for their free time when not in College classes or a Bermuda Bound activity, researching and applying for College transfer or other academic pursuits.
